At Yolo Land &
Cattle Co., we have invested considerable time
and energy to improve the rangeland ecosystem at our ranch
headquarters, and we love sharing our story with visitors.
Since 1996, we have welcomed agricultural tour groups, students, and
dignitaries from all over the world.
We typically host
pre-scheduled bus groups of 30 or more
people. Buses can drive across our ranch, or we can provide
hay rides for a more hands-on experience. We also welcome
visitors who arrive in other modes of transportation.
Weather is a consideration
and our tour season normally runs from March
through October. In the event of rain, we can accommodate up
to 40 people inside our headquarters, and we’ll provide a slide show
presentation of a simulated tour.
On the tour, guests will
learn about modern beef cattle production,
riparian habitat and rangeland restoration, and our on-going efforts to
increase wildlife populations. The average tour length is
about one hour, depending on the interests of the group.
After the tour, we proudly
serve an authentic
buffet-style western
steak barbecue with all of the trimmings. Cows and horses
grazing in the background provide a picturesque setting for this
memorable feast. After the meal, guests can relax under the
quiet shade of our mulberry trees, play horseshoes, cowboy croquet, or
shop for ranch products at our mini general store.
One of the common tasks performed on horseback
is the time-honored art
of roping. Often, cattle must be lassoed or roped in the
field so cowboys can give medication. Young calves are also
roped to be marked and vaccinated. Roping demonstrations may
be given by one of our cowboys or family members, and folks will have a
chance to practice their skills on roping dummies.
"Saddle up for a ride across some land that's been home to cattle ranching since the California Gold Rush. Operated by the Stone family, the ranch is a model of agriculture that benefits the environment."
